Golden Bird And Golden Swan

It was a few years ago. A powerful king ruled in Rajasthan. At that time he had a very beautiful palace in the middle of the lakes. There was also a very beautiful garden around the palace in those lakes.

Many golden swans lived in the lake. The swans used to drop one feather every day. The king used to collect all those feathers and deposit them in the treasury.

One day, a big golden bird flew to that lake sat on the branch of a tree on the bank of the lake, and started chirping. Seeing the clean and clear water and trees of the lake, he thought of camping there. But the swans could not tolerate the presence of that bird.

Laughing together, I asked, “Who are you?” Why have you come here?

Before the bird could say anything, the swans said that it would be better for you to leave from here, otherwise, we would all kill you.

Why did the golden bird say? Doesn’t this lake come under the king’s territory?

The swans replied – She would come. But we have bought this place from the king. Even kings do not come here without our permission. Got it! Now you move away from here.

The poor bird became sad. She flew from there and sat on a tree in the garden and started waiting for the king. The king used to come for a walk in the garden every day.

As soon as the golden bird saw the king, he flew to him and said, Maharaj, I have flown from a faraway country and come to this beautiful capital of yours. I want to live in your kingdom. But the swans living in the lake near the palace chased me away from there.

And has also threatened to kill me. He says that he has bought that lake from you.

On hearing the words of the golden bird, the king’s anger knew no bounds and he immediately ordered the soldiers to kill all those swans. How dare he say that about me.

As soon as they received the king’s order, the soldiers started towards the lake.

When a swan saw the soldiers coming with naked swords in their hands, he immediately understood the whole matter. He called out to all the swans from a distance. The king’s soldiers are coming towards us with swords in their hands to kill us.

Some swans thought that soldiers come every day to collect our feathers, but that swan again said, that they do not come with a naked sword in their hands. Before the soldiers could reach it, all the swans flew into the sky.

Here a thought started coming to the king’s mind. Why did I listen to a stranger and order my golden swans to be killed? Now how will he be able to get golden wings every day? Due to their bad nature, the golden swans left the lake. This could have been explained to them by talking also.

From this story, we learn that we should never be so proud of ourselves that we do not need a sword to resolve a matter even through dialogue.

Greedy Old Stork

An old crane lived on the banks of a river. The stork had become so old that it was difficult for him to even get enough food for himself.

The fish would swim past him and he would not be able to even catch it and eat it. Because of this he gradually became weaker.

One day the crane was sitting on the bank of the river crying in despair over his helplessness. Just then a crab was passing by. Seeing the crane crying, the crab asked him the reason for crying.

Then suddenly a thought came to the crane’s mind. The stork did such a drama and said, perhaps you don’t know what kind of trouble is going to happen to the creatures living in this river.

The crab said I don’t know what is going to happen?

The stork said an astrologer has told me that the water of this river is going to dry up soon. All the animals living in it will be killed.

There is a lake a short distance from here. Big animals like crocodiles, turtles frogs, etc. can reach there by walking on their own. But I am worried about creatures like fish that will die without water. That’s why I’m sad and sad, I want to help them.

Hearing this, some other water creatures were stunned. But they were happy that the crane was worried for them.

Saras said, not once but gradually I can carry some creatures on my back and release them till that lake. But I don’t know whether I will be able to do this work alone or not.

All the creatures obeyed the crane and started fighting among themselves to ride on its back to save their lives.

The crane said I am very weak. Do this first everyone will send their children. After that, I will slowly take you to them.

Everyone made their children sit on the stork’s back every day as per the instructions of the stork. The crane’s devious plan was working. Every day he would carry the fish on his back, take them behind a hill instead of the lake, kill them, and eat them.

In this way, after eating fish every day, the stork became strong and sour. One day the crab said to the crane, “Friend, it seems you have forgotten me.” I thought that to save my life, you would first take me from here to that lake. But you are not even thinking about when my turn will come.

The stork said, don’t get angry, come today I will take you to that lake, you sit on my back.

The crab became very happy and sat on the back of the crane. The stork also flew away carrying it towards the lake.

After flying for a long time, the crab could not see any river or lake anywhere. The crab called the crane a foolish creature! Do you think I am your servant? There is no other lake here. I used to entangle you with my words and take food without any effort from my mind and rest by eating there behind the hill. Saying this the crane started laughing.

The crab then placed his claw on the crane’s neck and asked him to return to the river otherwise he would break the crane’s neck. The crane was forced to return towards the river.

As soon as they reached the river bank, the crab jumped off the crane’s back and ran into the water and the crab told all the creatures the truth about the crane. Hearing this, everyone was angry at the crane.

We learn this lesson from this story. You should never be hasty in talking to someone whom you don’t know. If he is talking about your benefit, then you should think about what benefit he is going to get. No one does good to anyone else unless he is getting some benefit from you, that is why the elders have said so. Greed is a bad.
